Chirnside Common Good Association What is the Common Good? The Chirnside Common Good Association is a registered charity which works for the benefit of the village of Chirnside by supporting social, cultural and sporting activities. The committee organises events and makes grant applications to raise funds for local activities and projects. For example, the Association is responsible for the Christmas lights, the Frances Edgar Memorial Prize for Primary 7 and looks after various areas of the village such as the Tennis court. Recent projects include the new village signs, producing a new village leaflet and updating the Directory of Local Services. Chirnside Pupils in National Euroquiz Final.Recently, four pupils from Chimside Primary School, represented the Borders at the National Final of Euroquiz. The Primary 6 pupils, Rebecca Brady, George Burton, Kirsten Cowe and Kirsty Millar, had won the Borders heat of Euroquiz, a Scotland-wide event organised by the Scottish European Educational Trust. The four studied hard for the national final, giving up lots of their spare time, including intervals and lunch breaks, to make sure they were well prepared. On Monday, 12th May, they travelled by train from Berwick -Upon-Tweed, with their teacher, Mrs. Scott, to the National Final at the Scottish Parliament. The event was attended by 26 other teams from different regions throughout Scotland, all of whom had won their area final. The quiz was held in the main debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament, and the teams took their places where the MSP's usually sit. Undaunted by their surroundings, the children performed admirably in the final, showing a wide variety of knowledge about Europe. Although not placed, they were a credit to their school and to the Borders. They scored a high mark and were great ambassadors for their school. Chimside can be very proud of young people like this, who truly deserved the opportunity given to them to shine. This will be one day they'll never forget.
