Chirnside lies 8 miles inland from the beaches at Coldingham and
Eyemouth, and is close to the historic walled town of
Berwick-upon-Tweed, the most northerly town in England.
To the west is Duns, the 'county town' of Berwickshire, where The Jim Clark Room displays many of the trophies won by the World Champion during his racing career.
Country houses of historical interest in the area
include Manderston, Mellerstain, Paxton House and Ayton Castle. These
are all open to the public, and leaflets giving opening times are
available from Tourist Information Centres.
The grounds of the Hirsel near Coldstream and Duns Castle Estate are
also open to the public, as well as the nature reserve, St Abbs Head,
run by the National Trust.
All these provide a variety of leisure activities and give access to
some of the most beautiful parts of Berwickshire.
Eyemouth has a working harbour, as well as the Museum near the centre of the town.
Throughout the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland there are Castles, Pele Towers and Abbeys, evidence of the turbulent history of the area, which provide a wide range of interesting places to visit.
